Keynote Speaker: Jack W. Szostak
We are excited to announce Nobel prize-winning biochemist Jack W. Szostak as the keynote speaker. An investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Chicago, Dr. Szostak was the first to create a yeast artificial chromosome which can be used to clone DNA, an achievement that aided scientists in mapping the location of genes in mammals and developing techniques for manipulating genes. He was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, along with Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol W. Greider, for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres.
